FOLKLORE STUDIES IN THE SAMARKAND SCHOLARLY ENVIRONMENT OF THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY
Hauptsächlicher Artikelinhalt
Abstract
This article examines folklore studies in the Samarkand scholarly environment of the early twentieth century. It analyzes how oral tradition became an object of scholarly attention through collection, recording, classification, interpretation, and academic circulation. The study focuses on Jadid intellectual networks, G‘ozi Olim Yunusov’s expeditions, Hodi Zarif’s terminology and classification of bakhshi schools, the role of Samarkand educators, the use of folklore in textbooks, and the institutional contexts that connected oral creativity with literary history. The article argues that Samarkand folklore studies were not merely collecting activity, but a methodological process that transformed oral heritage into a scholarly source for Uzbek literary historiography and national cultural memory.
