THE ROLE OF KASHKADARYA REGION IN UZBEKISTAN'S FOREIGN RELATIONS

Abstract

This article examines the evolving role of Kashkadarya Region within Uzbekistan's foreign economic relations during the post-independence period from 1991 to 2024. Based on comprehensive statistical analysis of trade volumes, foreign direct investment flows, and partnership networks, the study identifies three distinct phases of regional international engagement: the transitional period (1991-2000), the stabilization and growth phase (2001-2016), and the accelerated integration era (2017-2024). The research demonstrates that Kashkadarya Region has transformed from a peripheral agricultural zone into a strategically significant industrial and trade hub, with its foreign trade turnover expanding from approximately 180 million USD in 2010 to 1,242.4 million USD in 2024, representing a nearly seven-fold increase. The analysis reveals that the region's economic diplomacy has been characterized by diversification of partner countries from 25 nations in 2010 to over 80 countries by 2024, with China, Turkey, Russia, and the Netherlands emerging as dominant trade partners. The study concludes that Kashkadarya's integration into global value chains, particularly in textile manufacturing, agricultural processing, and energy sectors, has significantly contributed to Uzbekistan's overall foreign trade performance and regional economic development.
